Sustainable building design and construction is something that comes natural to us. Because of our deep-seated commitment to doing what is right for our people, our clients, and our community, it was only fitting that we embrace the green building movement. Being able to do what is right for the environment while also providing excellent results for our clients is an opportunity that we truly relish.
Sustainability Starts at Home
We have over 20 LEED accredited professionals on staff representing a multitude of disciplines. Many of these professionals have office space in our LEED Certified corporate office addition. Our LEED staff and other members of our team plant, maintain and harvest an on-site garden that is bolstered by a composting initiative and irrigated with rainwater collected at our corporate offices. We also recycle (everything).
Our staff is full of people with a true passion for sustainability, and the fact that we can take this passion to ‘the next level’ by building ecologically responsible space for others is something we take on with gusto. We’re proud of the many LEED certified projects we’ve built. We’re even prouder that the people who build them wouldn’t have it any other way.
Going for GOLD
The USGBC (U.S. Green Building Council) designates sustainable buildings based on a point system that can lead to your green building being rated Certified, Silver, Gold, or Platinum. We’ve had the good fortune to be able to deliver Gold Certified projects to St. Vincent College, Allegheny College, and PNC Bank. Achieving this high certification rating is no small task and we applaud our staff for delivering the results and our clients for putting their trust in us to build superior sustainable projects.
Going Green and Teaching Others
The U.S. Green Building Council has recognized Massaro as a leader in the field of sustainability by designating us an official USGBC Education Provider. We are able to develop continuing education programs and offer them to our staff as well as the greater Pittsburgh building community. Teaching our industry peers is a responsibility that we don’t take lightly. We are committed to sharing ideas and best practices for a more sustainable future.
