Massaro Design Build LLP was contracted by Duquesne University to design and renovate approximately 3500 square feet of existing locker room space, and create a small 400 square foot attached addition for football equipment storage.
The project included full demo of the existing interior space, addition of shower and restroom facilities, new lockers, and new finishes in four locker rooms. The small addition for football equipment needed to be tied into the existing building as well.
The project required an aggressive schedule as the only available time for construction was during summer break.
Interesting features of the renovation and addition include, new phenolic lockers, rubber “sports” flooring with an integrated Duquesne logo.
Because the athletic field is adjacent to the fieldhouse, Massaro was responsible for protecting the field and adjacent landscape. This required creation and
utilization of a ramp for transport of equipment and construction waste.
With various camps and practice activities throughout the summer, Massaro had to coordinate removal and re-installation of landscape protection multiple times during activity hours to accomodate the customer’s schedule. Work also required coordination with crews on other projects in the building simultaneously.
